My name’s Alexander Katanski. Most people call me Alex. I grew up in California, the west coast of the United States. I was born in San Mateo and moved a lot throughout the Bay Area. I ended up finishing elementary and middle school and got through 3/4th into my freshman year before I moved to Moscow, Russia. I decided to move to learn more about my heritage.
My whole family’s Russian and while we were living in California, my dad did his best for us to know the language, but with time it slowly started fading to the point where I had completely forgotten it. The first couple of months in Russia were extremely hard: had almost no knowledge of the language or of the people and didn’t think I’d be able to pull through, but with the help of my family and the teachers that took it upon themselves to teach me Russian and the other subjects I needed in order to finish school here and get my diploma, I was able to not only finish school, but also make it into university. In the 3 years I’ve been living so far in Moscow, I’ve met a lot of new people and made a lot of new friends.
I’ve also been able to learn more about the History of this phenomenal country and I’ve gotten closer to God in the process.
